3 KHICHDI RECIPES ( for 10 – 24 months baby )


RECIPE #1 – MOONG DAL & DALIYA KHICHDI

Ingredients: ( for #1 – Moong dal & daliya khichdi )

Ghee – 1/2 tsp
onion – 1 tbsp ( finely chopped )
ginger paste – a pinch ( or 1/8 tsp )
cumin powder – a pinch ( or 1/8 tsp )
hing / asafoetida – pinch
tomato – 1/4 cup ( finely chopped )
carrot – 1/4 cup ( chopped or grated)
peas – 1/4 cup
moong dal – 1 tbsp
daliya (coarse) – 2 tbsp ( cracked wheat / samba rava / godhuma rava )
water – 1.5 cups ( or 300 ml )
salt – ( add a pinch for 1 year baby/ toddler )

Method:

Step 1) Heat a pan or pressure cooker.

  • Add ghee
  • Add onion and ginger paste and cook for 30 seconds
  • Add tomato and cook until soft
  • Add carrot, peas, cumin powder, hing ( asafoetida ), moong dal, water and daliya
  • note: Add a pinch of salt for 12+ months baby ( not recommended for babies less than 12 months )
  • Cover and bring it to a boil
  • Once it boils, reduce to low and cook for 20 minutes ( or pressure cook for 15 minutes )
  • Once ready, mash the vegetables using a potato masher.
  • Serve around 3/4th cup = for 10 – 12 months baby
    Serve 1 cup or more = for 12 – 24 months baby

RECIPE #2 – RICE & DAL KHICHDI

Ingredients: ( for #2 – Rice & dal khichdi )

Ghee – 1/2 tsp
ginger garlic paste – a pinch ( or 1/8 tsp )
turmeric powder – a pinch ( or 1/8 tsp )
coriander powder – a pinch ( or 1/8 tsp )
hing / asafoetida – pinch
carrot – 1/4 cup ( chopped or grated)
potato – 1/4 cup
rice – 1 tbsp
moong dal – 1 tbsp
coriander leaves – 1/2 tsp ( finely chopped )
water – 1 cup ( or 240 ml )
salt – ( add a pinch for 1 year baby/ toddler )

Method:

  • Add ginger garlic paste
  • Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, hing (asafoetida ), carrot, potato, rice, moong dal, coriander leaves, water
  • note: Add a pinch of salt for 12+ months baby ( not recommended for babies less than 12 months )
  • Cover and bring to a boil
  • Once it boils, reduce to low and cook for 20 minutes ( or pressure cook for 15 minutes )

Ingredients: ( for #3- oats & daliya khichdi )

Ghee – 1/2 tsp
garlic paste – a pinch ( or 1/8 tsp )
turmeric powder – a pinch ( or 1/8 tsp )
cumin powder – a pinch ( or 1/8 tsp )
beetroot – 1/4 cup ( chopped or grated)
bell pepper ( or capsicum ) – 1 tbsp
oats – 1 tbsp
moong bean ( green gram ) – 1 tbsp ( or use moong dal )
daliya (coarse) – 2 tbsp ( cracked wheat / samba rava / godhuma rava )
coriander leaves – 1/2 tsp
water – 1 cup ( or 240 ml )
salt – ( add a pinch for 1 year baby/ toddler )

Method:

  • Add turmeric powder, cumin powder, beetroot, bellpepper, oats, moong bean(or dal ) , coriander leaves, water, daliya ( coarse or fine )
  • note: Add a pinch of salt for 12+ months baby ( not recommended for babies less than 12 months )
  • Cover and bring to a boil
  • Once it boils, reduce to low and cook for 20 minutes ( or pressure cook for 15 minutes )
  • Once ready, mash the vegetables using a potato masher.
  • Serve around 3/4th cup = for 10 – 12 months baby
    Serve 1 cup or more = for 12 – 24 months baby
