Breakfast Cereal ( for 9 – 12 months baby ) / stage 3 baby food recipe / Multigrain and almond cereal for 9 – 12 months baby ( with 3 flavours )
3/4 cup – brown rice ( or red rice or kerala matta rice or organic rice )
1/2 cup – wheat
1/2 cup – barley
1/4 cup – almonds ( badam )
Add after grinding:
1 cup – oats ( quick or instant oats )
1/4 cup – raisins ( very finely chopped )
Method:
Step 1) Get ready with all the ingredients
Step 2) Into a strainer, add the barley, brown rice, wheat and quickly rinse it ..
Step 3) Heat a frypan (wok/kadai), add the rinsed rice, wheat, barley and roast until dry and crisp ..( takes 5 – 6 minutes )
note: Initially, the wet ingredients will stick to the spoon like here, as you roast (when ready) they get dry & stops sticking to the spoon.
Step 4) Once they are dry, stops sticking to spoon, crisp and spluttering, turn off the heat and spread on a plate ..
Step 5) To this, add the almonds, mix and let it cool for 10 minutes before grinding ..
Step 6) Grind the mixture in batches and add into a clean container ..
Step 7) To this, add the oats and finely chopped raisins, mix well ( or shake to mix )
The cereal is ready ! .. Store in room temperature and you can use for upto 2 months ..
How to cook cereal
1 cup – water
For 9 months baby = Serve 1/2 cup of cooked cereal
For 10 – 11 months baby = Serve 3/4 cup of cooked cereal
For 12 months baby = Serve 1 cup of cooked cereal
Method:
Pour into a serving bowl.. it will thicken as it cools .. Serve when warm ..
#1 – Banana Cereal
Ingredients: ( for #1 – banana cereal )
1/4 cup – mashed banana
( optional – 1 scoop formula/baby milk powder)
Method:
note: If you like to add formula/baby milk powder, add a scoop to this cooked cereal, mix and serve ..
#2 – Apple Date Cereal
Ingredients: ( for #2 – Apple & date cereal )
2 tbsp – apple ( peeled, de-seeded & finely chopped)
1 tbsp – date ( de-seeded & finely chopped )
1 cup – water
Method:
Pour into a serving bowl and serve when warm ..
#3 – Strawberry Banana Cereal
Ingredients: ( for #3 – Strawberry banana cereal )
2 tbsp – strawberry ( finely chopped)
2 tbsp – banana ( mashed )
1 cup – water
Method:
Pour into a serving bowl and let it cool down.. Just before serving, add the mashed banana, mix and serve ..

Tips:
- If the consistency gets too thick after cooling down, you can add little boiled & cooled water to get the right consistency

How much to serve:
For 9 months baby = Serve 1/2 cup of cooked cereal
For 10 – 11 months baby = Serve 3/4 cup of cooked cereal
for 12 months baby = Serve 1 cup of cooked cereal -
Offer solids atleast 25 – 30 minutes after breast feeding or formula so that they will eat without any fuss and wouldn’t make their tummy full
