Ingredients: ( for rice & dal porridge )
Rice – 1 tbsp
dal ( moong dal ) – 1 tbsp
water – 3/4 cup
Method:
Step 1) wash & soak the rice & dal for 10 minutes
Step 2) Take a small blender, add the soaked rice and dal with 1/4 cup ( or 4 tbsp ) water and grind for a minute
Step 3) Add into a sauce pan. Pour water, cover and bring it to a boil.
Step 4) Once it starts boiling, mix for 10 seconds. Cover and cook on low-heat for 10 minutes.
Rice & dal porridge ready.. pour into a bowl and feed.
Optional – you can also add 1/4 tsp ghee ( or 4 – 5 drops ) when hot, mix and feed
Tips:
- How much to feed:
- For 6 months baby = 1- 2 tsp starting week ( later 1 tbsp )
- For 7 months baby = around 3 tbsp ( or 1/4 cup )
- For 8 & 9 months baby = around 1/2 cup
- For 10 – 12 months baby = around 3/4 cup
- To cook in pressure cooker:
- I used a small ( 1.5 litres ) pressure cooker
- Add the ground rice & dal with water. Put the lid on and heat on high
- Once the steam comes out, place the weight and cook on low-heat for 6 minutes.
- Turn off the heat. let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Open and pour into a bowl. feed when warm
- If too thick, add little boiled & cooled water to adjust the consistency of the porridge.
